Usage Help

Tip 1: Look up words by inputting Chinese character pinyin. Accepted pinyin input formats include "Pin1 Yin1", "Pin Yin", "Pin1Yin1" and "Pin1". An input string containing numbers will be treated as pinyin input. If there are no numbers, but the character string contains spaces, it will be treated as an English phrase and searched. If no results are found, it will be treated as pinyin input and researched.

Tip 2: By clicking History, you can view previous word lookups from your current browsing session. You can also save this list, or export it as a text file to a local device, facilitating subsequent study and review.

Tip 3: After performing a search, you may not be satisfied with the explanation given. If you wish you attain a better understanding of information related to this word, you can click one of the links after "Look up in". This will take you the translation of the authoritative Merriam-Webster dictionary or other search engine sites.

Tip 4: If you are in a completely English environment and cannot see the Chinese definition at all, choose "Output as Image". This will allow you to display Chinese as a picture, and you will then be free to use this dictionary on any computer.

Tip 5: When you search a word not contained in the database, the system will allow you to <Create This Word>>. By clicking the link <Create This Word>, you can then manually build this word. Try it out, and see the results.

Tip 6: When you search a word that is contained in the database, the system will allow you to <Correct This Word>. If you feel that the definition given for a word is problematic, clicking the link <Correct This Word> will enable you to manually revise the word's definition.
